PixelDesk practical guide

Make a contact sheet from local images

A contact sheet collects several images in one file. It is useful for reviewing a set, sharing a quick overview, or comparing variations without opening every picture separately.

Choose a manageable set

Select up to 12 still images in the file picker. The tool displays the filenames in the order returned by your browser. That order becomes the order on the sheet, reading left to right and then top to bottom. File pickers can sort selections differently, so check the list.

Each image may be JPEG, PNG or WebP. Mixing those still-image formats is fine. Files remain in your browser; the tool does not send them to an upload service.

Set the grid

Choose one to four columns and a width and height for each image cell. A three-column layout is a useful starting point for six or nine images. Fewer columns produce a taller sheet; more columns produce a wider one. When fewer images are selected than columns, the tool uses only the columns it needs.

Spacing creates breathing room between cells. The output also includes a 16-pixel outer margin. Filename labels add 30 pixels below each image row. These additions are part of the final pixel dimensions.

Choose Fit or Center crop

Fit keeps each complete image inside its cell. Pictures with different proportions will have different amounts of empty space. Center crop fills every cell for a more uniform grid, but removes content around the edges. Use Fit for accurate review; try Center crop when a consistent presentation matters more.

Add labels when they help

Optional labels use the original filenames. Long names are shortened to fit the cell, so the sheet remains readable. Labels are part of the exported image. For important identification, use brief distinct filenames before selecting the files.

Export one image

Choose PNG for a crisp sheet with labels, JPEG for broad compatibility with a solid background, or WebP where your destination accepts it. JPEG and WebP default to 90% quality here, with an adjustable quality control. Transparent PNG or WebP backgrounds are available if labels remain readable in your destination.

The tool creates one image rather than a PDF or ZIP. Use Images to PDF for separate pages, or Merge images for a strip or stack. A very large grid can use substantial browser memory. Reduce cell dimensions if processing fails, particularly on a phone. Each source and the finished output are bounded by the documented limits.

Your source files are not modified. Download the sheet as a new image and keep the originals for future editing.
