Base64 keeps the original bytes and metadata and makes the representation roughly one third larger. This tool accepts at most 5 MiB of decoded image data. A pasted URL must contain supported Base64 image bytes, not a remote web address.
Supported files
Still JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF up to 20 MiB and 64 megapixels, plus HEIC where your browser can open it (Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad). Photos above 24 megapixels are edited at 24 megapixels, and color effects run at up to 12 megapixels. Multi-image tools allow 12 files and 60 MiB of combined input. Base64 converter: common questions
Does Base64 reduce image file size or remove metadata?
No. Base64 retains the original image bytes and metadata, and its text representation is roughly one third larger. Resize or compress the image first if you need fewer bytes.
Can I paste a web address to fetch an image?
No. Paste a Base64 data URL containing supported JPEG, PNG or WebP bytes. Remote URLs are not fetched. The decoded image must be no larger than 5 MiB.
